VFL Tobias Harris earns NBA Community Assist Award

Former University of Tennessee basketball player Tobias Harris has been honored by the NBA for his community service.

Harris, a forward for the Philadelphia 76ers, received the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for October, the league announced on Dec. 10.

Harris was acknowledged for his efforts to improve education throughout the country. He strives to promote educational equity.

On Oct. 17, the former Volunteer and starter for Philadelphia, partnered with Read by 4th to host a Book Block Party on Philadelphia’s north side as part of his campaign, Tobias Lit Labs, which brings diverse books and authors to schools and families.

He was honored Saturday at Wells Fargo Center before the 76ers played Golden State.

Philadelphia defeated the Warriors, 102-93, in that game.
